Scarab 22 foot folding trimaran

This design is for intermediate builders. Some boat building experience would be helpful.

The Scarab 22 was developed from the 670 but is quite different. It is slightly bigger all round and wider in the stern sections. The float construction and beam supports are different from the 670 and there are no centreboards in the floats, the board is housed in the starboard settee riser. There is more room inside and has a larger cockpit with accomodation for 4.

Viktor Akatsevich built 6 Scarab 22's in Russia.

The boats above were built in foam composite and epoxy (Ray's) and plywood composite and epoxy (Peter's). Although the boat is the same length as the Scarab 670 it has more room inside, larger cockpit, and is easier to build. There is no building frame for the floats.
The float construction has been modified to speed up the building process, the beam folding arms are now connected to a support beam which is made from plywood and triaxial fibreglass instead of a fabricated aluminium ring frame.

Approximate cost to build in Australia up to painting stage is $15,000 AUD (Klegecell foam composite) and $12,000 AUD (plywood composite panels) if you make your own panels.
